Dive Christmas Island

7 night packages from AUD$2,875 per person

Validity : 1 April 2023 – 31 March 2024

Experience diving the spectacular hard coral reefs and stunning ‘drop offs’ of Christmas Island – a marine habitat just waiting for you to discover. Friendly fish, an abundance of coral and the possibility of an encounter with a whale shark. Explore the wonders Christmas Island has to offer!

Christmas Island is an oceanic island, the tip of a long-extinct volcano, sticking out 300m from the ocean. 80km of coastline supports a fringing reef, most of which is around 20-25m depth, with views to some amazing drop-offs, hosting gorgonian fan corals, sea caves to explore and a myriad of fish life. This underwater terrain means we can host divers of varying experience and skills.

With rarely any current, the visibility is usually between 25-50m.

Diving in the Dry Season – April – October

Diving is usually conducted on the North Western coastline. This is protected for most of the year and the coral gardens are well established. This coastline also boasts caves, gorgonian fan corals, steep drop offs and pretty coral gardens.

Diving in the Wet Season – November – March.

Diving, weather permitting, is still conducted on the North West coastline. When the ocean is too rough to launch from Flying Fish Cove, the operators use the boat ramp at Ethel Beach. This side of the island doesn’t have the extensive coral gardens, but there is plenty of wildlife still to see.

Whale sharks frequent the island generally between November – March, though they are most likely viewed on the NW side of the island. Some seasons are better than others for whale shark activity.

Flying Fish Cove is spectacular for shore diving. No substandard ‘house’ reef here – just more of our amazing coral gardens, drop offs and the occasional friendly dragon moray, turtle and bump-head parrotfish.

Christmas & Cocos (Keeling) Islands are fantastic dive destinations for your small group tour or club. Contact our diving specialist Sue for recommendations and to plan your trip.

Our Recommendation: Book a minimum 4 days diving to get the most out of your trip. We still highly recommend you hire a car during your stay. The dive boats generally return around 1pm giving you time to grab lunch and in 10-15 mins you are out in the jungle exploring waterfalls, hidden beaches and our exciting blowholes. Afternoon tours start at 2pm so you can still get back from diving in time to head out with an experienced guide.
